Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors Corporation reported an 8.3% year-on-year increase in global production to 81,196 vehicles in January 2026, following an 18% decline to 75,004 units in the same month of last previous year. Production in Japan rose for the third consecutive month in January, by 4.4% year-on-year to 44,424 units, while overseas output rebounded by over 13% to 36,772 units following two months of declines.

Sales in Japan, including vehicles imported from overseas, declined by 3.5% to 9,882 units in January – the fifth consecutive monthly decline. Exports from Japan dropped by 21% to 15,302 units following a 25% rise in December, reflecting mainly a 32% plunge in exports to the US to 7,747 units.

In the first ten months of the current fiscal year, between April 2025 and January 2026, global production fell by 2.6% to 737,271 vehicles, after declining by almost 10% to 756,994 units in the same period a year earlier. Domestic output declined by just over 1% to 389,550 units, while overseas production fell by 4% to 347,721 units. Sales in Japan increased slightly to 94,581 units in this period, while exports fell by 7% to 185,064 units.
