A realistic journey to being acquired
I just sold my first business.
After 456 days, my small one-person consulting business has just been acquired. I never thought I would get to this point.
But here’s how I did it.
For two years, I was a wantrepreneur.
I would talk endlessly about wanting to start a business. I would devour books, podcasts, and YouTube videos. But months and years would go by, and I wouldn’t take any action.
I was mentally masturbating (without lube).
The trouble is that I wanted perfection. Everything had to be ready. The problem with perfection is that you’ll become overwhelmed. There is no such thing as ‘perfect’ in business.
Challenge yourself to make a million-dollar business; you’ll quickly become overwhelmed.Think about how you might start making an extra $1,000 per month, and you’ll start to think creatively.
Truthfully, it almost doesn’t matter how you start.
But the most important thing is that you start.
You can always pivot and change as you go. Build the plane as you fly it. A business is built through constant iteration, not by grand design.
80% of business success comes down to your beliefs, and beliefs are reinforced through action.
So don’t bother meditating or shouting affirmations in the mirror.
All you need to do is:
Show-up everydayMove your business forward by 1%
If you do this for a long enough time, your business growth will compound.
People often assume I was only in business for the money. While money is important, I was more afraid of letting myself down. To going back to being a wantrepreneur.
