BlackRock tokenized money market funds are no longer just a U.S. story. The world’s largest asset manager has launched tokenized share classes for select European money market funds within its $311 billion Institutional Cash Series (ICS) platform.
What BlackRock Is Launching and How It Works
Built on Ethereum and powered by JPMorgan’s Kinexys, the move gives institutional investors programmable, 24/7 access to regulated cash products in euros, sterling, and U.S. dollars, a first for BlackRock’s European operations.
The new tokenized share classes sit inside BlackRock’s ICS platform, which manages roughly $311 billion in institutional cash.
Each token issued is backed 1:1 by a corresponding traditional share.
The shareholder register remains the definitive legal record of ownership, but tokens on Ethereum allow near-real-time peer-to-peer transfers between allow-listed institutional wallets.
JPMorgan’s Kinexys Digital Assets serves as the tokenization service provider.
Kinexys has processed over $300 billion in intraday repurchase transactions since launch and is the same infrastructure behind JPMorgan’s own MONY fund.
The funds covered span euro, sterling, and U.S. dollar-denominated strategies under the Irish UCITS umbrella, targeting Public Debt CNAV, LVNAV, and related liquidity strategies.
This European expansion follows BlackRock’s August 3 U.S. launches of two BlackRock tokenized money market funds.
The On-Chain Shares of BSTBL and the new BRSRV stablecoin reserve vehicle, both targeting GENIUS Act compliance for stablecoin issuers.
The back-to-back moves signal that BlackRock is converting its entire cash franchise, not just one product, into blockchain-native form.
What This Means for Institutional Cash and the Broader RWA Market
For European institutional treasurers and corporate cash managers, the ICS tokenized classes offer something existing products do not: settlement that does not stop at 5pm.
Investors can move positions between allow-listed wallets at any hour, with operational efficiencies that traditional fund rails cannot match.
The launch also strengthens Ethereum’s claim as the settlement layer of choice for institutional real-world assets.
BlackRock’s flagship BUIDL fund already holds over $2.5 billion across eight blockchains, and Ethereum anchors the majority of that volume.
Competitors are watching. Aviva Investors partnered with Ripple to tokenize a USD liquidity fund on XRPL.
While Ondo’s Oasis Pro secured FINRA approval to offer tokenized stocks and ETFs in the U.S., each move adding competitive pressure to BlackRock’s growing tokenization empire.
BlackRock’s Jon Steel, Global Head of Product and Platform for its Cash Management business, stated that demand is growing for high-quality reserve assets that work across both traditional and digital markets.
The ICS European tokenization fits that thesis precisely, giving digital-asset desks a regulated, yield-bearing cash position that settles onchain.
Bitget recently topped a CryptoRank study on tokenized stock trade execution, a sign that demand for tokenized financial products across categories is accelerating fast.
BlackRock tokenized money market funds are now live on both sides of the Atlantic, and the institutional cash market, worth over $8.4 trillion in the U.S. alone, is a prize worth racing for.
