The Weekly Notable Startup Funding Report takes us on a trip across various ecosystems in the US, highlighting some of the notable funding activity in the various markets that we track. The notable startup funding rounds for the week ending 5/17/25 featuring funding details for PhaseV, Olio, Hedra, and seventeen other deals representing $852M in new funding that you need to know about.

Akido Labs – $60.0M

Los Angeles-based Akido is a care delivery platform with the mission to ensure our most vulnerable communities thrive. Founded by Hugh Gordon, Jared Goodner, and Prashant Samant in 2015, Akido Labs has now raised a total of $81.6M in total equity funding and is backed by Comprehensive Blood & Cancer Center, Future Communities Capital, GrECo, Jeff Dean, Oak HC/FT, SNR Denton, and Y Combinator.

Avicena Tech – $65.0M

Sunnyvale-based Avicena Tech manufactures ultra-dense, ultra-low power petabit per second optical chip interconnects. Founded by Rob Kalman in 2019, Avicena Tech has now raised a total of $97.7M in total equity funding and is backed by Cerberus Capital Management, Hitachi Ventures, Lam Research, Maverick Silicon, Prosperity7 Ventures, SK Hynix, Tiger Global Management, and VentureTech Alliance.

Bestow – $70.0M

Dallas-based Bestow is a life insurance SaaS company that utilizes advanced technology and data solutions for the insurance sector. Founded by Jonathan Abelmann and Melbourne O’Banion in 2016, Bestow has now raised a total of $207.5M in total equity funding and is backed by TriplePoint Capital.

Cohere Health – $90.0M

Boston-based Cohere Health is a SaaS company that focuses on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare delivery. Founded by Duncan Reece and Siva Namasivayam in 2019, Cohere Health has now raised a total of $186.1M in total equity funding and is backed by Deerfield Management, Define Ventures, Flare Capital Partners, Longitude Capital, Polaris Partners, and Temasek Holdings.

FlexPoint – $12.0M

Manhattan-based FlexPoint provides a digital payments platform that modernizes the way technology is bought and sold. Founded by Alex Kushner, Sam Kushner, and Victor Lopez in 2021, FlexPoint has now raised a total of $19.4M in total equity funding and is backed by Cascade Seed Fund, Far Out Ventures, Foundry Group, Garuda Ventures, Haymaker Ventures, and Techstars.

Founded by Alexander Bergman and Michael Lingelbach in 2023, Hedra has now raised a total of $42.0M in total equity funding and is backed by A16Z GAMES Speedrun, Abstract, Andreessen Horowitz, and Index Ventures.

Layer AI – $6.5M

San Francisco-based Layer AI offers a generative AI platform to assist game developers in creating 2D, 3D, and video assets. Founded by F. Burcu Ozcengiz (Hakguder), Mehmet Ecevit, and Volkan Gurel in 2022, Layer AI has now raised a total of $18.3M in total equity funding and is backed by Arcadia Funds, e2vc, and Riccardo Zacconi.

Olio – $11.0M

Indianapolis-based Olio is the only collaboration platform to digitally connect acute and post-acute providers by specialty. Founded by Ben Forrest in 2017, Olio has now raised a total of $26.5M in total equity funding and is backed by Fulcrum Equity Partners and Mutual Capital Partners.

Openlayer – $14.5M

San Francisco-based Openlayer is an analysis platform that “opens up” machine learning models by detecting and eliminating failure patterns and biases. Founded by Gabriel Bayomi, Rishab Ramanathan, and Vikas Nair in 2021, Openlayer has now raised a total of $19.5M in total equity funding and is backed by KPN Ventures, Mento VC, Mindset Ventures, NXTP Ventures, Quiet Capital, Race Capital, Telefonica, Wayra, and Y Combinator.

Optimal Dynamics – $40.0M

New York-based Optimal Dynamics is a SaaS company that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to disrupt the logistics industry. Founded by Daniel Powell and Warren Powell in 2017, Optimal Dynamics has now raised a total of $95.8M in total equity funding and is backed by Activate Capital Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners, Koch Disruptive Technologies, and The Westly Group.

Orby AI – $357K

Mountain View-based Orby AI is an AI platform designed to bring the auto-complete experience to everyday business users and automate all mundane tasks. Founded by Bella Liu and Will Lu in 2022, Orby AI has now raised a total of $34.9M in total equity funding and is backed by Gaingels.

Owner – $120.0M

Palo Alto-based Owner is a technology company that provides tools for local restaurant owners to enhance sales and online presence. Founded by Adam Guild and Dean Bloembergen in 2018, Owner has now raised a total of $182.2M in total equity funding and is backed by Alt Capital, Brett Schulman, Christina Cacioppo, Day One Ventures, Dharmesh Shah, Fidji Simo, Headline, Jonathan Neman, and Meritech Capital Partners.

PhaseV – $50.0M

Boston-based PhaseV provides AI-driven solutions for efficient clinical development and operations. Founded by Dan Goldstaub, Elad Berkman, and Raviv Pryluk in 2023, PhaseV has now raised a total of $65.0M in total equity funding and is backed by Accel, Exor Ventures, Insight Partners, LionBird, and Viola Ventures.

Saildrone – $60.0M

Alameda-based Saildrone is a maritime company that enables navies, governments, and organizations to obtain data required to monitor the maritime domain. Founded by Richard Jenkins in 2012, Saildrone has now raised a total of $248.5M in total equity funding and is backed by Academy Securities, BZH Capital, Calm Ventures, Crowley Maritime, Export and Investment Fund, Lux Capital, Pinegrove Capital Partners, Washington Harbour Partners, and What If Ventures.

Solestial – $17.0M

Tempe-based Solestial, Inc. is the solar energy company for space. Founded by Mikhail Reginevich and Stan Herasimenka in 2013, Solestial has now raised a total of $28.0M in total equity funding and is backed by AE Industrial Partners, Airbus Ventures, Crosscut Ventures, GPVC, Industrious Ventures, Mitsubishi Electric, Stellar Ventures, Techstars, and Zeon Ventures.

Founded by Cameron Behar and Max Cohen in 2021, Sprinter Health has now raised a total of $92.6M in total equity funding and is backed by Accel, Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst, Google Ventures, and Regents of the University of California.

The Nuclear Company – $46.3M

Lexington-based The Nuclear Company is a fleet-scale nuclear deployment firm that offers for nuclear sectors. Founded by Jonathan Webb, Kiran Bhatraju, and Patrick Maloney in 2023, The Nuclear Company has now raised a total of $46.3M in total equity funding and is backed by CIV, Eclipse, Goldcrest Capital, MCJ, True Ventures, and Wonder Ventures.

Theom – $20.0M

San Jose-based Theom provides an AI-native data operations center platform to discover, track, and protect enterprise data in cloud environments. Founded by Navindra Yadav, Ravi Sankuratri, and Supreeth Rao in 2020, Theom has now raised a total of $36.4M in total equity funding and is backed by Databricks Ventures, Ridge Ventures, SentinelOne, Snowflake, and Wing Venture Capital.

X-Bow Launch Systems – $35.0M

Albuquerque-based X-Bow Systems is a space technology company that produces solid rocket motors and hypersonic technologies for defense industries. Founded by Jason Hundley, John Leary, Mark Kaufmann, and Maureen Gannon in 2016, X-Bow Launch Systems has now raised a total of $134.4M in total equity funding and is backed by Arkenstone Partners, Balerion Space Ventures, Boeing HorizonX Ventures, Bravo Victor Venture Capital, Capital Factory, Crosslink Capital, Event Horizon Capital, Lockheed Martin, Razor’s Edge Ventures, and Upsher Management Company.
