Fu-Gen, a renewable energy developer based in Switzerland, has secured a 125MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Vuolijoki, central Finland, in collaboration with Nala Renewables.
This development follows a framework agreement between Fu-Gen and Nala Renewables in October 2025 to establish a portfolio of ready-to-build BESS projects across Finland.
Construction on the Vuolijoki project is expected to begin later this year.
Fu-Gen development director Seppo Tupeli said: “Delivering another large-scale, ready-to-build BESS project demonstrates the strength of our Nordic development strategy and our ability to bring extensive energy solutions to the Nordic market.
“We are proud to collaborate with Nala Renewables and contribute to the decarbonisation and stability of Finland’s electricity system.”
The first project under this agreement, the Vuolijoki BESS, has been finalised, highlighting the project’s technical and commercial viability.
Previous collaborations include the Kauhava BESS facility with a capacity of 50MW in South Ostrobothnia, Finland, which Nala acquired from Fu-Gen as a ready-to-build project earlier in 2025.
Nala Renewables interim CEO Remy Verot said: “We are delighted to have closed this ready-to-build project with Fu-Gen, who have demonstrated their expertise throughout.
“Finland is a strategic market for BESS in Europe with a strong business case and we are delighted to continue expanding our footprint in the Nordics.”
Nala and Fu-Gen have a history of implementing energy storage projects in the Nordic region.
In July 2024, Nala signed an agreement to acquire a 61MW-peak solar photovoltaic project in western Romania from renewable energy group Monsson.
“Fu-Gen and Nala finalise 125MW BESS deal in Finland” was originally created and published by Power Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.
