Air Products & Chemicals (NYSE:APD) said Monday it plans to build, own and operate a carbon capture and carbon dioxide treatment facility at its existing hydrogen production plant in the Netherlands, which it says would be the largest blue hydrogen plant in Europe once operational.
The resulting “blue” hydrogen product would serve Exxon Mobil’s (XOM) Rotterdam refinery and additional customers via Air Products’ (APD) hydrogen pipeline network system, the company said.
Air Products (APD) said the carbon capture retrofit will capture CO2 from the company’s existing hydrogen plant and Exxon’s (XOM) Rotterdam refinery, and will be connected to the Porthos consortium developing the first large-scale CO2 transport and storage system in the Netherlands, which recently reached final investment decision approval.
The Porthos system also allows Air Products (APD) to cut its CO2 emissions in the port of Rotterdam by more than half, which also will contribute to meeting Dutch National Climate Agreement targets, the company said.
