Proof Noncitizens in NJ Are Being Registered to Vote

Remember when President Donald Trump said there was an issue with election security, and the left went bananas, claiming no such thing had happened or even could happen? Even though there are numerous reports of deceased people still on voter rolls, illegal immigrants voting in elections, and other issues, so many media outlets and left-leaning critics insist this isn’t happening. Well, move over, naysayers, because New Jersey just discovered more than 6,000 noncitizens were registered to vote, and it isn’t the only state or jurisdiction to have this problem.

Noncitizens Casting Ballots

NJ Gov. Mikie Sherrill admitted that around 6,600 noncitizens were registered to vote in the Garden State due to a software glitch courtesy of the Motor Vehicle Commission’s (MVC) automatic voter registration system. What’s even more alarming is that about 400 of those illegals cast ballots.

Sherrill claimed to have heard about the problem just a week ago and blamed it on the former governor, Phil Murphy. “This entire situation is unacceptable,” she said. “It’s unacceptable that the vendor released software with such a glaring error. It’s unacceptable that the MVC took a year to get this issue fixed, and it’s unacceptable that no one, in the previous administration, brought this to light [or] demanded accountability.”

What happened in New Jersey is a perfect example of why the SAVE America Act is so important, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said. The bill proposes to restrict illegal voter access by adding requirements to prove citizenship before registering to vote and casting a ballot. Democrats, on the other hand, argue the bill will make it harder for certain demographics to vote since they won’t easily be able to obtain the necessary ID cards or other admissible identification.

Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) took the comment to a comical level. During a June 6 address to Indiana’s state Democratic Party, she celebrated the rejection of the SAVE Act, claiming it would allow the Trump administration to “rig our democracy.” Then she threw out the kicker: “It would be hard for any Democrat in any state to win any election.”

White House rep Jackson observed, “Democrats and their media allies have repeatedly said it is impossible for noncitizens to register to vote, let alone cast a ballot. Time and again, they have been proven wrong.”

Apparently, this isn’t a new issue for New Jersey. The Garden State’s GOP said last month that it had identified hundreds of noncitizens who had been registered to vote, “and at least 30 cases of them illegally [cast] votes, citing a ‘key vulnerability’ at the Motor Vehicle Commission,” the New Jersey Monitor reported.

The GOP state party chair, Christine Giordano Halon, said she knew that, when the information was released, the findings would be dismissed as fearmongering by Democrats, the outlet explained. “We knew better then, and we know better now,” she said. “We will not be bullied on an issue so critical to our democracy and will continue to shine a light on a legitimate concern [that] should not be partisan. Unfortunately, the Governor chose to deflect blame for the State’s failings to President Trump rather than focusing on the issue at hand.”

Other States Register Illegals to Vote

New Jersey isn’t the only state at fault; there is plenty of shame to spread around. Oregon’s Department of Motor Vehicles released information this month, admitting that 1,940 people were registered to vote without providing proof of citizenship. At least 44 of those individuals voted. Furthermore, in May, the Beaver State settled a lawsuit and agreed to remove ineligible voters from its systems. The suit began in 2024 and argued the state was not removing voters as required by the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.

The lawsuit argued that 19 of the state’s 36 counties had not eliminated any voters from November 2020 to November 2022. “In all,” the suit read, “these 29 counties reported a combined total of 2,404,849 voter registrations as of 2022. Yet they reported removing a combined total of 36 registrations in the last two-year reporting period.”

In October last year, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose referred 1,200 criminal cases to the Department of Justice (DOJ). “It is a rare thing for people to commit voter fraud, but it is serious when it happens,” LaRose told News 5. “We’re talking about people that we have evidence broke the law as it relates to state election laws. Making sure that people know that we take election violations seriously in Ohio and that if you break the law, there will be consequences for doing so.”

LaRose sent a letter and evidentiary materials to the DOJ for four of the most recent federal election cycles — 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024 — which included:

99 who appear to have voted in two states in the same federal election16 who appear to have voted twice in Ohio in the same federal election14 who appear to have voted in a federal election after the date of their death4 who appear to have engaged in ballot harvesting2 who appear to have registered at a residence where they were not entitled to register

Although a significant portion of the political left denies it, America does have an election security issue. This report barely touches the tip of the proverbial iceberg and references only a few instances of voter registration and ballot-casting problems. Election integrity shouldn’t be a Republican or Democrat issue. Every citizen should want accurate voter rolls and have confidence that elections are conducted fairly. Ignoring problems doesn’t make them disappear; it gives Americans only more reason to question the system.
