Eindhoven-based eyeo, a company specialised in nanophotonic color-splitting technology, has raised €15M in seed funding, co-led by imec.xpand, and Invest-NL.
“Eyeo is working on disruptive innovation in the image sensor industry. As a Deep Tech Fund, we want to accelerate these key technologies. We are proud to support this company in developing them,” says Bart van Campenhout, investment manager at Invest-NL.
Other investors, including QBIC fund, High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), and Brabant Development Agency (BOM), participated in the round.
The company will use the capital to develop an evaluation kit, scale up production processes, and expand commercial collaborations to bring the technology to the market.
By working closely with industry leaders, eyeo aims to bring its advanced camera sensors to a wide range of applications, from smartphones and VR glasses to any compact device that uses color cameras.
The first evaluation kits are expected to be available for selected customers within the next two years.
Eyeo: Providing advanced nanophotonic color-splitting technology
Eyeo is a spin-out of the research institute imec and established itself in Eindhoven in early 2025
Traditional image sensors use color filters to distinguish red, green, and blue pixels.
The filters block all light particles (photons) in the other colors, resulting in a loss of 70 per cent of the light. This is directly related to the image quality.
Eyeo is transforming imaging with the world’s most advanced nanophotonic color-splitting technology.
For the first time, image sensors can capture all incoming light, moving beyond the old 30 per cent limit set by color filter technology.
The company’s new technology guides light directly to individual pixels, providing full light sensitivity and accurate colors, even in tough conditions.
It works with any CMOS sensor and allows for very small pixels of less than 0.5 microns.
This advancement enables high-quality imaging in areas like XR, industrial, security, and mobile applications, where image quality is essential.
